Finding the good stuff
Extracting app icons
App icons are usually the easiest and most satisfying find.
- Open the res/ folder in your APK
- Look for folders starting with drawable, such as drawable hdpi or drawable xxhdpi
- Sort files by size to find the largest images
- Look for files named ic_launcher.png or something similar
- Drag your favorite one to the desktop
Why multiple folders? Android stores different resolution icons for different screen densities. Grab the highest resolution, usually in drawable xxxhdpi, for the best quality.
Finding sounds and media
- Check the res/raw/ folder for notification sounds and background music
- Look in assets/ for game sounds, video files, or custom data
- Search for common extensions like .mp3, .wav, .ogg, .png, and .jpg
